Beginning The Journey

My love for writing fiction is similar to my love for playing guitar. Funny enough, it’s also why I loved my job leading supply chains for large retail corporations. In all three, imagination and creativity are required. While each must abide by certain rules (grammar in the first case, music theory in the second, and laws and policies in the last), there are no limits to what can be created. Two words come to mind: imagination and invention. Throughout my life, I’ve thrived when given a blank canvas with no road map. A first step eventually leads to a second, and before long, you can find yourself in a surprising new place. If you’re lucky, the outcome can be thrilling. You may even say out loud: “Who would have thought!”

I often wonder how McCartney and Lennon wrote Let It Be? Of course, it started with a first note - a simple C chord - followed by a G and an A. Then the melody arrives: “When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me,” And suddenly, the duo had a masterpiece on their hands, taking listeners’ breath away for half a century. Every day, I sit at my desk and begin pecking away at the keyboard, hoping to invent a world that excites readers in some small way. And when I’m lucky, my words ring brightly. But when I’m not lucky, I turn to my editor to help right the wrongs. I pray one day my words turn into a novel that touches someone enough to take their breath away, too.

So, here we are, at the beginning of this journey. I hope you join me! This is the first step, and tomorrow, there will be a second. Let’s see where our feet take us!
